FAQ

  • Can I replace the seals to regain pressure in my hydraulic pump?

If you’re experiencing pressure loss and think it might be the seals, it’s best to have a qualified professional test the pump. This helps ensure safety both for personnel and the machine.

  • What are the different characteristics of single-acting and double-acting cylinders?

A single-acting cylinder receives pressure from one side and uses its own weight to return to the original position. A double-acting cylinder relies on pressure from either side so it can work in either direction.

  • Are brass or galvanised fittings okay to use?

No. Brass and galvanised metal can flake and contaminate the oil. This can cause damage to the unit. Using only PSI rated fittings is the best way to prevent this from happening.

  • What are the differences between hydraulic oil and hydraulic fluid?

Hydraulic oil is petroleum-based while hydraulic fluid is either water or synthetic based. The latter is usually used for machines with potential fire risks. Because the term “hydraulic fluid” can be used interchangeably, it’s recommended to check with the manufacturer or owner’s manual to determine which one is best for your pump.

  • How do I know what voltage my system is designed for?

Using the correct voltage is important for effective operation and safety of the hydraulic pump. Voltage specifications are normally listed on a label, usually inside the unit. You can also refer to the user’s manual or check with the manufacturer.

  • How do I know what PSI pump rating I need?

That depends on the size of the machine and the application. You can check with the pump manufacturer or find flow charts online for specific PSI ratings.
